Community Service

We have a great relationship with Cullowhee United Methodist Church. We work alongside them and with other community agencies to help those in our area.

Here are some of the ways our students get involved with their local community regularly.

Contribute to Wesley by designating us as your Amazon Smile charity:

"Cullowhee United Methodist Church--Wesley Foundation."

Meals on Wheels

Through the Jackson Department on Aging, we deliver food each Thursday to seniors in our community who need the asssistance of Meals on Wheels. We also help in other ways (such as Operation Christmas Box). It is a great way for students to create friendships with people who are not connected to the university.

Project Firewood

Cullowhee UMC's big mission project is Project Firewood: splitting, loading and delivering wood to those who are in need of heat during the winter. It starts in September with Impact Day and goes once a month until March! Click here to watch a video Jay made of the 2015 Impact Day.

Our small groups continue to do this during the fall 2020 semester.

Ramp Building

In collaboration with the Jackson County Department on Aging, Wesley students gather together to build ramps so that people in our local community can get in and out of their homes safely.

This fall 2020 semester, these are being done on various Fridays. Check in with Jay or Hannah to learn about the next build day.

Whee Wednesday

Each Wednesday, Cullowhee Methodist provides their Whee Wednesday dinner. We contribute back to the church that gave us our home by setting up chairs and tables, cleaning the dishes and occasionally even cooking the food! (Check out the video above to see students setting up the space for dinner)

Wesley Day Camp

Wesley Day Camp is our way of providing childcare on days that public school is out, yet parents still have to work (ex: Veterans Day). There is a preschool located downstairs from Wesley. It's a great way for our students to help out those parents as well as interact with children!

Football Concessions

Starting again in 2017, Wesley has worked the concessions stands at WCU home football games. It's a fast paced job, but a lot of fun and students get to serve people in the community. Wesley gets 15% of the profits, so it is a good way to share about our organization while we help hungry customers!
